Happy 3rd birthday Engadget HD!

Engadget HD logo
Yes we can't believe it either, but as of today we're officially done with the terrible twos. Although we haven't always made it easy on our parents, we have tried to make them proud since our first post 36 months ago by bringing all of you the best HD news coverage we can. In that time we've written over 11,672 posts and recorded 125 Podcasts, which is pretty crazy. We have to say that we've had so much fun hitting the HD news you love, we can't even believe its been that many. We also look forward to many more years of HD goodness, but of course none of this would be possible without all of you Engdaget HD readers. So go ahead and give yourselves a pat on the back -- and then get back to reading.

Engadget podcast logoThe CEDIA rush has faded, but there's still plenty to talk about on the Engadget HD podcast. So set up the DVR to record the game tonight -- we're not going to promise a short show -- or strategically position the lappy next to the La-Z-Boy when the podcast goes live onto the interwebs Monday, September 21st at 6:30 PM ET, right on Ustream. Embedded Ustream tools for those who don't mind the Flash IRC client and a list of topics after the break.

Engadget podcast logoWe're kicking off a new recording date and time for the Engadget HD podcast this week -- Monday September 14 at 6:30PM ET. So if you're one of the crowd who tunes in to Ustream to catch the show live, you'll need to rejigger your schedule. There's plenty of news from CEDIA to go over, and we might even get some new regular chatroom members at our new time, so come on by and check it out, won't you? Topic list and Ustream embeds after the break.

Thanks to Atlanta for the great reader meetup

We were really happy to see how many people showed up to our meetup in Atlanta during CEDIA -- especially when everyone didn't leave immediately after they enjoyed the free food. The local Georgia Tech chapter of the Association of Computer Machinery were awesome hosts and did an impressive job at organizing the event -- something we doubt we could've pulled off when we were in college. We also wanted to really extend our appreciate to everyone who participated including ZAGG who crashed the event with free headphones and gift cards -- and to think when we crash parties we usually don't bring anything. The pictures we took at the event are in the gallery below, but if you have some to add please post 'em on flickr with the tag EngadgetHD so everyone can find them, thanks. We were also happy to learn that a few of the participates were bloggers themselves, so to show our appreciation we wanted to share those sites with the rest of our readers. Thanks again, and we can't wait for the next one!

The Engadget Show tapes Sunday, September 13th -- our first guest is Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein

The Engadget Show gets underway this coming Sunday, September 13th, in New York City, and we're super excited to announce that the first person we'll be sitting down with for a one-on-one conversation is Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein! Between the recent launch of the Pixi, the introduction Pre and webOS, and all the other hubbub surrounding the company, we think it will be quite an interesting chat.

The show -- which will be a mix of one-on-one interviews, roundtable discussions, short video segments, and live music -- will take place at the Tishman Auditorium at Parsons The New School for Design. The Show will be filmed live once a month -- but if you can't make it, don't worry. We'll be bringing the full video back home to Engadget (and as a free download in the iTunes Store, Zune Marketplace, etc.) for your viewing pleasure. The full show should be online just a few days after we tape!

The beautiful venue (which you can see in a photo after the break) is located at 66 W. 12th Street between 5th and 6th Aves. Seating is limited and tickets will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis -- which means if you want to join us in the audience for the show, you'll have to arrive early and be prepared for a little wait.

Here are the facts you need to know about the show:

  • The show is graciously sponsored by Nokia, and hosted by Parsons The New School for Design
  • Bit Shifter (one of our favorite chiptune artists) will be playing live at the first show!
  • The total show length will be around an hour

Here is what you need to know if you want to be part of the audience:

  • There is no admission fee -- tickets are completely free
  • The event is all ages
  • The venue seats just over 450 people
  • Parsons students are welcomed, and we encourage them to come!
  • Tickets will be available for pickup at the Tishman Auditorium at 2PM on the 13th, and we're strongly encouraging people to get their tickets and not stand in line -- if you have a ticket, you'll have a seat!
  • You cannot pick up tickets for other people -- if you want your friend to get a ticket, bring your friend!
  • The show begins at 5PM, and doors will open at 4:30PM

Engadget HD reader meetup at CEDIA tomorrow

We figured enough was enough and that it was finally time for the HD crew to get in on some of this meetup fun, so with some help from our new friends at the Georgia Tech chapter of the Association of Computing Machinery, we're having the very first Engadget HD reader meetup. The event will take place on the Georgia Tech campus -- so no University of Georgia apparel is permitted -- at the Klaus building in room 1116W at 6:00pm on Friday the 11th and will go for about two hours -- we're told the easiest way to find the room is to walk through the main stairs to the courtyard and look for the signs. There is a place to park a few buildings over, but it isn't free. So come by and geek out over some CEDIA news with Ben and Richard of Engadget HD, and the members of the local chapter of the ACM.

Engadget HD podcast delayed for CEDIA goodies

Engadget podcast logoIn case you didn't notice from the previous Engadget HD podcast, we're attending CEDIA this week. That's good news and bad news. First the bad news -- we will be holding off on our podcast by one day, and we won't tempt fate by attempting to record live on Ustream. Now the good news -- and it's really good -- we'll be recording after the first day of CEDIA, so we should have plenty of good stuff to talk about, including results from the LG, Sony and Microsoft media events. Expect to see the podcast rolling out on our regular station (that's right here, silly) on Thursday, September 10.
